The Outer OAIS – Inner OAIS Model and Use in Distributed Digital Preservation

27th Apr 2016 : 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

This webinar presents the Outer OAIS-Inner OAIS (OO-IO) Model, which is a model building on OAIS allowing different functional entities to be shared among archives. This is especially used in Distributed Digital Preservation (DDP) which is crucial for various parts of digital preservation, but is not covered in detail in the OAIS reference model. Here distributed digital preservation is “the use of replication, independence, and coordination to address the known threats to digital content through time to ensure their accessibility”.

The OO-IO Model builds on a model developed during the work on architecture of the Danish BitRepository.org framework. This is a case of distributed digital preservation in the form of a bit preservation system involving several organizations. This work informs the DDP project that was initiated and coordinated by Educopia in the USA, which gave the basis for the more general OO-IO model which covers more than just the Archival Storage functional entity.

Wednesday 27 April, 14:00 BST / 15:00 CET. The webinar will last approximately one hour.
