Launching ViPER, the Virtual Preservation Environment for Research

Launching ViPER, the Virtual Preservation Environment for Research

Overview

Description: Remember Battlestar Galactica’s Colonial Vipers, or the Vic Vipers from Gradius? You can now launch your own. The Dutch Digital Heritage Network, Open Preservation Foundation and National Archives of the Netherlands are proud to add ViPER to the lineup of sci-fi themed preservation tools such as DROID and C3PO.

ViPER is an easy-to-install virtual machine running popular open source preservation tools with graphical user interfaces: DROID, HandBrake, JHOVE, MediaInfo, Tika and veraPDF. Research them before making decisions about which to use in your production environment. Use a shared folder to quickly research a file set. Etc. One environment, many tools, updated twice a year, open source.

You may know ViPER by its working title of VRE or Virtual Research Environment. In this webinar, we will unveil the fully branded and updated ViPER product, show you where to get it, how to configure and use it, and demo its features.
