What have we been doing in eArchiving in 2024?

Janet Anderson

The OPF has been a part of the E-ARK Consortium since 2018, and OPF colleagues play a key role in the communications/outreach team (Julie Allen and Helena Watson) and the validation team (Carl Wilson and Darren Digham) in the eArchiving Initiative (https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/activities/earchiving).And we have all been very busy in 2024 as it was the 10th Anniversary of the original E-ARK project back in 2014! So, we decided to go back to the Technical University in Lisbon, Portugal on 5th – 7th February 2024, exactly 10 years on from our original E-ARK launch there, to celebrate alongside developing our strategies and...

Exciting Updates to Our Member Area: new perks, sleek upgrades and possibly a feature that makes coffee

Georgia Moppett

(okay, so the coffee bit is still in very early testing)! Last year we embarked on a journey to rejuvenate our website’s Member Area. We wanted this platform to be interactive and operate as more of a centralised ‘base’ for our members. Remco van Veenendaal

On Tuesday, September 12, 2024, we received good news at the National Archives of the Netherlands (NAN). Our digital repository (e-Depot) received CoreTrustSeal certification for another three years and we are proud of that. But this recertification was not a piece of cake. More was needed than simply resubmitting our application from the previous time. In this blog, Marin Rappard and I share seven experiences and corresponding advice. 1) New requirements, new text CoreTrustSeal updates the CoreTrustSeal Trustworthy Data Repositories Requirements, or the requirements for certification, every few years. We also had to deal with a new version. Clearer and...

#WDPD2024: Gamification of digital preservation

Lotte Wijsman

Happy World Digital Preservation Day! This blog is about the making of the game File Format Fling. The link to play the game can be found at the end of the blog. If you’ve ever met a digital preservation practitioner, you’ve likely noticed their passion for their work. This enthusiasm often shows up in creative ways—floppy disk cookies and parody songs, for example, are fun, lighthearted ways to share the field with others. Games are another wonderful, engaging way to explore digital preservation. In recent years, we’ve seen a variety of outstanding preservation-focused games, both analog and digital. Digital games,...
