The Digital Preservation Coalition is delighted to announce the next set of finalists for the Most Distinguished Student Work Category of the 2016 Digital Preservation Awards.

The prestigious Digital Preservation Awards is a world-wide celebration of the achievements of those people and organisations who have made significant and innovative contributions to ensuring our generation’s digital legacy will be available tomorrow. It culminates in an eagerly anticipated awards ceremony at the Wellcome Trust in London on Wednesday 30th November 2016.

Vice chair of the judging panel with responsibility for the Student award, Daniela Duca of Jisc said, ‘the quality of work we’ve seen within this category is just outstanding. There is such talent and knowledge emerging from universities across the globe, it certainly bodes well for our digital future.’

Finalists for the DPC Award for the Most Distinguished Student Work in Digital Preservation are (in no particular order):

• A RAID map case study of high energy X-ray characterisation of microstructure by Edith Halvorssen, University of Glasgow
• Personal Archives Pre and Post Cloud Computing by Roland Quintaine, Aberystwyth University
• The Transferability of Trusted Digital Repository Standards to an East African context by Anthea Seles, University College London
• The Scalability and Realism of Digital Preservation Guidelines by Niamh Ni Charra, University College Dublin
• Preservation Practices of New Media Artists: Challenges, Strategies, and Attitudes in the Personal Management of Artworks by Colin Post, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Before the judges decide the winners, members of the Digital Preservation Coalition will be invited to cast their vote on each category once all the finalists have been announced. Members will be asked to select their first and second choices for each category, and are asked to provide feedback to the finalists. Each Full Member, Associate and Allied Organisation of the DPC may submit one vote.

Finalists will then wait until the prestigious Digital Preservation Awards ceremony at the Wellcome Trust in London where winners will be announced in front of their own digital preservation community, friends, family and peers from leading organisations.
