After the most gruelling and detailed set of deliberation so far, the Digital Preservation Coalition is delighted to announce the first set of finalists for the 2016 Digital Preservation Awards.
The prestigious Digital Preservation Awards is a world-wide celebration of the achievements of those people and organisations who have made significant and innovative contributions to ensuring our generation’s digital legacy will be available tomorrow. It culminates in an eagerly anticipated awards ceremony at the Wellcome Trust in London on Wednesday 30th November 2016.
Chair of the judges and 2014 Digital Preservation Awards winner Adrian Brown said, ‘Nominations were received from 10 different countries in Asia, Europe, North America, Australasia and the Middle East making this the most international competition so far. The quality of applications was astonishing, not to mention the enthusiasm and encouragement garnered by the successes of previous winners.’
Finalists for the SSI Award for Research and Innovation are (in no particular order):
- 4C Project
- Universities of York and Hull: Filling the Digital Preservation Gap
- NCDD: Constructing a network of nationwide facilities together
Sponsor of the Award for Research and Innovation, Neil Chue Hong of the Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) said: ‘each of our finalists has demonstrated world-class innovation and research which will go on to benefit the entire digital preservation community.’
Before the judges decide the winners, members of the Digital Preservation Coalition will be invited to cast their vote on each category once all the finalists have been announced. Members will be asked to select their first and second choices for each category, and are asked to provide feedback to the finalists. Each Full Member, Associate and Allied Organisation of the DPC may submit one vote.
Finalists will then wait until the prestigious Digital Preservation Awards ceremony at the Wellcome Trust in London where winners will be announced in front of their own digital preservation community, friends, family and peers from leading organisations.
