Open Preservation Foundation and DLM Forum Sign Memorandum of Understanding

A new memorandum of understanding has been signed by the Open Preservation Foundation (OPF) and the DLM Forum.

The memorandum was signed at the DLM Forum Members’ Meeting in Helsinki by Remco van Veenendaal, Director, OPF Board, and Jan Dalsten Sørensen, Chair of the DLM Forum. The agreement facilitates both parties to build a collaborative partnership to address existing and emerging challenges in long-term archiving and digital preservation, and to ensure a sustainable future for tools and knowledge.

Jan Dalsten Sørensen said:

“We have been working closely with OPF for a number of years and their vision and objectives align with our own. This Memorandum of Understanding enables us to work together to reach our shared goals”.

“We have already worked alongside the DLM Forum on a number of innovative initiatives, including the E-ARK4ALL project,” explained Martin Wrigley, Executive Director of the OPF.  “We are very much looking forward to further developing our productive working relationship. Moreover, this MoU will help us to better coordinate our activities for the benefit of both OPF and DLM Forum members, as well as the wider digital preservation community”.

“Both of these organisations share a commitment to expanding the sustainability of standards and software,” said Remco van Veenendaal. “It was a pleasure to sign this Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the OPF, and I look forward to seeing the fruits of this exciting partnership.”

About

The Open Preservation Foundation is a global not-for-profit membership organisation working to advance shared standards and solutions for the long-term preservation of digital content. Founded in 2010 as a result of the EU Planets project, the OPF now leads a collaborative effort to create, maintain and develop the reference set of sustainable, open source digital preservation tools and supporting resources. This set of tools (including software and standards) enables organisations to evaluate, validate, document, mitigate risk, and process digital content to be preserved in line with desired policies and community best practice.

The DLM Forum is a vibrant community of public archives and interested parties from across government, commercial, academic and voluntary sectors who are active in information governance, including archives, records, document and information lifecycle management. It was founded by the European Commission and first met in 1996. Today it is a not-for-profit foundation providing industry specifications, participating in activities and serving members from all over Europe and the rest of the world.
