After a week of suspense the Digital Preservation Coalition is delighted to announce the last set of finalists for the Safeguarding the Digital Legacy Category of the 2016 Digital Preservation Awards.
The prestigious Digital Preservation Awards is a world-wide celebration of the achievements of those people and organisations who have made significant and innovative contributions to ensuring our generation’s digital legacy will be available tomorrow. It culminates in an eagerly anticipated awards ceremony at the Wellcome Trust in London on Wednesday 30th November 2016.
Vice chair of the judging panel with responsibility for the Digital Legacy award, Louise Lawson of Tate, said, ‘this award embodies the very essence of digital preservation. All three finalists have challenged threats to our digital estate and are saving important digital collections which might otherwise have been lost.’
Finalists for the DPC Award for Safeguarding the Digital Legacy are (in no particular order):
- The Digital Repository of Ireland: Preserving Ireland’s Social and Cultural Record
- “The Digital City revives:” A case study of web archaeology
- Suffolk Record Office: Preserving Suffolk’s Digital Assets
The judges also offered a special commendation to the University of Sydney for the Pacific and Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures (PARADISEC) project.

Before the judges decide the winners, members of the Digital Preservation Coalition will be invited to cast their vote on each category. Members will be asked to select their first and second choices for each category, and are asked to provide feedback to the finalists. Each Full Member, Associate and Allied Organisation of the DPC may submit one vote.
Finalists will then wait until the prestigious Digital Preservation Awards ceremony at the Wellcome Trust in London where winners will be announced in front of their own digital preservation community, friends, family and peers from leading organisations.
