The Open Preservation Foundation is pleased to announce that ViPER version 1.2 is out now! ViPER is an open-source, easy-to-install virtual machine. 

Major new features of this release include:

• Upgrades to the ViPER toolset:
  • veraPDF 1.26
  • JHOVE 1.30
  • DROID 6.7.0
  • See https://vitest.openpreservation.org/tools/ for a full list of RC tools
• Guest OS upgraded to Debian 12 Bookworm
• VirtualBox 7 compatibility tested
• Updates to the ViPER documentation site, a test version of the upgraded site is available here. 

 

About ViPER

Viper is an open-source, easy-to-install virtual machine running popular open-source preservation tools with graphical user interfaces: DROID, HandBrake, JHOVE, MediaInfo, Tika, and veraPDF. Archiving digital collections requires a number of requirements—(pre-)ingest, validation, checking file type, etc. In our VRE, you can research these tools before using them in your production environment.
